Robai… A Woman Empowered

There is no Zoe Ministries without the stories of the beautiful Kenyan people that we have the opportunity to serve. We want you to know the faces behind the stories.

There is no Zoe Ministries without the stories of the beautiful Kenyan people that we have the opportunity to serve. We want you to know the faces behind the stories. Our Field Notes blog series will allow us to share the intricately woven stories of how God has intervened time and time again, and we hope that you’ll feel inspired all the more.

Robai has a smile that lights up a room – a smile that tells you that she has seen the goodness of God. Robai has also had her share of hardship. When we met Robai, her need was great. She’s a widow tasked with being the sole provider for her 5 grandchildren. Widowhood in Kenyan culture is an added burden to the already challenging tasks of daily life.

Life for Robai was full of weariness, worry, sickness, and restless nights. The weight of her responsibilities was crippling. But that’s not the end of Robai’s story. Robai met the Lord, and He is now her sustainer. God has radically altered Robai’s life. He has healed her mentally and physically. He has restored her confidence and provides her daily with the strength she needs to continue providing for her family.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. – Psalm 23: 1-4

Robai now works as an beadwork artisan for Zoe, which provides her with income – something challenging to come by as a widow in Kenya. On top of that, she now feels a sense of purpose and has a creative outlet that she loves. Robai also serves as the chair of the widow’s weekly fellowship group where she is able to use her story of God’s redemption to encourage other women.

God’s blessings are abundant in Robai’s life, and Zoe is grateful to have a front row seat. Robai’s story is just one of many like it that we’ve seen unfold. Thanks to supporters like you, Zoe is able to share the love of Christ and his redemptive grace with each of the ‘Robai’s’ that we have the honor of coming across. THANK YOU for believing in a better future for our Kenyan community!
