Known. Loved. Worthy!

“Farming has brought a big difference in my life. Last year, I didn’t farm because I didn’t have the proper knowledge. This year, my children and I have food.”

In Kenya, widows are often overlooked and pushed aside. Once their spouses die, their traction on life seems to gradually fade. Their protectors are gone, leaving them alone, with no one to fend for them. This too was the case of Susan.

Susan told our team, “When my husband died, we were left in a position of vulnerability with an almost falling house, no dishes, no clothes, and a family that wanted nothing to do with us.” Susan and her young children were placed in a state of vulnerability that many of us cannot imagine.

In August of 2022, Zoe gifted Susan and her children a new home. A safe place they could call home and be out of the weather. A place they could be a family.

After blessing her with a new home, we knew our efforts in empowering Susan needed to be long-term, not temporary. Susan, along with nearly 40 other women, participated in a farming pilot program under Zoe this past spring. We knew we could maximize what many of these women already had (land) to empower them long-term.

In March, Susan, and other women just like her, began taking courses on sustainable small-scale farming. Susan was given seed, herbicide, and fertilizer to start her own farm. In September she harvested her half acre with a successful crop of corn and beans. Today, she’s now ensured that she can invest in her children’s education, provide food for her family, and be ready for the next farming season.

“Hope means breaking up this cycle, one small step at a time… the finish line being fellowship in Heaven, celebrating the Lord’s work through us all.” -Ann, Empowerment Director

When our team is empowering vulnerable women, three words are used the most: known, loved, and worthy.

Because of your generosity, Susan now knows that she’s known, loved, and worthy.
